Doula In A Day - Childbirth Education & Partner Support Who is this class for?
* Anyone who loves and values the woman giving birth * Anyone who will be an active part of the birth * Anyone who wants to better understand birth and how to be available during the perinatal period in a loving way * The mother herself, fathers, partners, families & friends What is a doula? A doula is someone who supports a woman through childbirth and the perinatal period (the time just before and after childbirth). Traditionally and cross-culturally, groups of women have used their experience, compassion and networking to care for and support the laboring mother. Today, though times have changed, the needs of a laboring woman have not. Doulas SUPPORT mothers physically and emotionally during labor. Doulas ADVOCATE for the mother’s choices and well-being. Doulas TRUST the mother’s ability to birth. Doulas DO NOT provide medical care; however, in today’s highly medicalized system, doulas DO need to understand the medical environment and the realities behind the standard interventions in order to be able to do their jobs as advocates. NOTE: This is not a professional doula training course. This course is for the people who will be present at the birth of their loved one in order to better understand the nature of birth, how to support the mother during birth and how to advocate for her wishes. This is also an excellent course for mothers themselves to understand the history of childbirth in the USA and what it means to birth in different environments as well as gaining a more comprehensive overview of childbirth itself.
